What are Herpes?
There are several types of the Herpes virus. The tree most common are listed below.
1. Oral Herpes, simplex type 1 ( HSV-1 ) which causes cold sores.
2. Genital Herpes, simplex type 2 ( HSV-2 ) is the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease (STD) .
3. Herpes Zoster infection also known as Shingles.
An estimated 25% to 30% of adults in America alone have herpes. There are prescription medications available to treat herpes. Valtrex, Famvir and Zovirax, are commonly prescribed by doctors to patients with the Herpes virus. Unfortunately these prescription drugs do little or in some cases nothing at all to prevent outbreaks, not to mention the negative side affects they cause for some people.
There are how ever natural alternative medications available that boost the body’s immune system to fight the Herpes Virus. Some contain all-natural ingredients that have been used for centuries to maintain a healthy immune system. Products containing Hyssop, Zinc, L-Lysine, B vitamins, Coenzyme Q10, vitamin C, and garlic are just few all natural products that have been proven to help the body fight herpes outbreaks and reduce the concentration of herpes.
Diet also plays a major roll in how your body reacts to the herpes virus.
Certain foods can aggravate a herpes outbreak. The amino acid Arginine found in certain foods such as peanuts, sesame seeds and chocolate can exacerbate the herpes symptoms by blocking your body’s ability to absorb Lysine. Lysine is also an amino acid that has been shown to fight the herpes virus and even kill it.
Many of today’s cold and flue medicines especially lip balms used for fever blisters contain the amino acid Lysine. When a herpes out break is coming on you should load up on foods high in Lysine and low in Arginine.
Foods high in Lysine are yogurt, cheese and other dairy products just to name a few. Zinc, copper, vitamin A and Vitamin C in high doses will help speed up the recovery by stimulating your immune system.
You should consult your physician about the dosage of vitamin C proper for your condition. The dosage may range between 1000 mg to 6000 mg daily. Certain herbal teas and herbs such as Tarragon are also helpful in controlling herpes outbreaks.
